Volunteer Opportunities at Forrest General Hospital
Volunteers carry out many important roles and are highly valued members of the hospital community. As a volunteer, you help to enhance patient care by assisting staff, patients and their families in accordance with the mission of Forrest General Hospital: To provide high quality health services accessible and available to the residents of South Mississippi.
Whether you’re a retiree wanting to give back to the community, a student hoping to fulfill a service requirement or you simply desire helping others during your free time, there’s a wide array of opportunities for volunteering at Forrest General Hospital.
Because of the nature of care Forrest General provides, all volunteers are carefully screened. To begin this process, volunteers must submit an application. A TB (tuberculosis) skin test will be administered, or current results will be required. Volunteers will interview individually with a volunteer services representative and attend orientation before being assigned to their areas of interest.
All volunteers age 14-17 are eligible for the Junior Volunteer Program and must follow a separate screening process. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures. The process for becoming a Forrest General volunteer takes time, but it is meant to ensure the safety of patients and their families, as well as the success of our volunteers.
